To me, Miami is the perfect blend. With unique architecture, a vibrant culture and an ocean full of water, there is really not much more I could want. Like most major cities, Miami has had its golden days of growth and prosperity as well as times of decline and decay. These flows have left behind a rich mixture of rustic and ultra-modern which produces a feel unlike any other I have seen.

Today, Miami is in a rebound and growth stage. Areas that, just 10 years ago, were filled with abandoned buildings, are now the site of refurbished facades. Sites that were once on the verge of being condemned are now shining doorways leading to high-rises touching the sky. Trendy restaurants with eclectic food now occupy storefronts that were once considered risky to walk by at night. Yes, Miami has its own beat and that beat is pushing it forward.

This image provides a wide view of the skyline that is Miami today. While other cities have a key building that ironically identifies the location, this south Florida hot spot is known by the blue water and colorful structures influenced by the Caribbean. On this particular day, a normal afternoon storm was approaching which added interest to the sky. Indigenous trees on the left help frame the image and guide your eye along the waiting structures. A slight refection of the buildings can be seen in the watery foreground.

Peering across Biscayne Bay, I could not help but remember the words from a local favorite, Gloria Estefan, when she famously sang, “the rhythm is gonna get you!”

LOCATION :: There’s Nothing Like a SoBe Sunrise

Image

Sunrise on SoBe by Chip Bunnell PhotographyTravel is my passion. Some would say it is really more like a fun, obsession. Add a camera in my hand and there is nothing else like it! The past week has allowed us to join in with others in the immediate and extended family in a faraway place known as Sheboygan, WI. We numbered over 60 with ages ranging from 5 years to over 80 years young. The beautiful resort on the shore of Lake Michigan was the perfect setting. I was able to reconnect with those I have known and add new names and faces to my memory banks. It was 4 days of true fun, way too much food, real WI bratwursts and, of course, very little sleep.

As much as I live to travel and explore new places and people, I am always equally eager to return to my home with my beautiful bride and our well-mannered feline companion. I will share many of the experiences over the course of the coming weeks, but this is a reminder of why I feel we live in paradise. This image shows the flowing palm trees with a paver sidewalk designed to mirror the feel. The lights add a flare and pop of interest. In the background you can see the rich, blue sky beginning to take shape with the remains of the moon high on the left.

There is nothing like an early morning sunrise, especially on South Beach. Enjoy the image and embrace the treats that await you in your own backyard this weekend!
